Don’t play around with the recipe
Most homes in NZ have the Edmond's cook book. If it’s anything like ours at home, it’s well-worn with some pages used more than others! #ilovechocolateselfsaucingpudding
Now I must admit to the fact that I am not much of a cook. Food - yes, I like it and I eat it, but I just don’t have the knack of whipping up masterclass plates that make everyone go WOWOWOWOW! But one thing I do know - I can follow instructions, I can follow a recipe.
Now I have discovered in the 40+ years of my life that it is important to follow the recipe. I have learnt some things in my life time regarding cooking and recipes . . .
Although corn flour and baking powder look similar, you cannot swap them over . . .
If it says to cook it at 180, don’t think you can do it quicker by cranking it up to 240 . . .
If you’ve got a sweet tooth, adding another cup of sugar doesn’t actually help the cake’s consistency . . .
Pork chops, T bone steak and fish are all types of meat but they all need to be cooked differently . . .
To cook a GREAT meal and dish,
Follow the recipe
It’s like this with life.
You have the recipe book. It’s called the Bible.
In this recipe book, you will find the instructions, ingredients and process for:
A great marriage that ensures favour
Eternal life (the non-smoking version)
Developing and growing wealth that is intergenerational
Being healthy in all areas of your life
Being an amazing parent (one that your children want to be like)
Having a wonderful thought life
Raising incredible children who bring you great joy
Making wise decisions with no regret on the side
And so much more
In addition to having the recipe book, you also have with you, right along side, the Author of the book. He will guide you, assist you and counsel you as you follow the recipe, answering any questions you may have.
Whanau, we can say with all confidence and assurance, like Paul did in Philippians 4, that we have everything we need and more than enough! That is, when we follow the recipe, we will have a GREAT, God-honouring, fulfilling, complete life. It is His will. It is His way. It is His kingdom. BAM.
Action points:
Look at the various areas of your life and highlight 2 that could do with an improvement
Ask the Holy Spirit for wisdom
Search the Bible to see what He says about that (use Google if needed - so much quicker than the 1000 page Strong’s concordance we used to use!)
Write down 3 action points for each area
TAKE ACTION
Bless you and see you Sunday whanau!
