Godly wisdom = #winning
Was there anyone with a greater korero in the Old Testament than Moses? He was right up there!
Near death experiences as a baby . . .
Rescued from death by Pharoah’s daughter . . .
Raised in the courts of Pharoah . . .
Noted murderer and fugitive . . .
Wanderer of the desert . . .
Confronted with fire from the Lord and a radical swing in his ‘career’ . . .
Reconnecting with his lost whanau . . .
Confronting the greatest power of the time, Pharoah . . .
Unleashing miraculous signs and wonders that no-one could fathom or understand . . .
The Red Sea. Quails. Millions of people following him. Speaking with God face to face. Miracles. Power. THE WHOLE LOT!
With a story like that, Moses had every opportunity to be ‘da man’. I mean, he got to speak to God face to face as one does with a friend! But instead he is noted as being the meekest of men. Amazing.
One day, whilst dealing with the day to day issues of leading millions of people, his father in-law turns up and drops a bit of advice for him - Moses, you need to delegate mate or you’re gonna burn out. Choose some guys who fear God and get them to help you out (Exodus 18).
Right then, Moses could have stood up and said, “Arohamai Matua, but you’ve been away and you haven’t seen what I’ve been through and done over the last few years. I got this. I get to speak to God . . . face to face. I know what I’m doing.”
Nope. That’s NOT what he did. Instead, right then and there, he heeded his father in-law’s advice and made it happen.
That’s wisdom on so many fronts.
Wisdom heeds advice.
Wisdom listens to wise counsel.
Wisdom is teachable.
Wisdom fears God.
Wisdom takes action.
Here’s the reality - we are all faced with situations each and every day. Do we rely on our experience, our knowledge, our feelings, our thinking or do we tap into the wisdom of God?
There is an easier and more successful way whanau:
ASK GOD FOR WISDOM . . . DAILY.
And once you have done so, take the necessary action and make it happen.
Too many people know what to do in their heart of hearts but don’t take action. Don’t be ‘that guy’! Learn from the example of Moses and go after these action points:
Action points
Ask God for wisdom
Seek out godly counsel*
Take action
* Be aware of people who may give you advice, but the advice is neither God-honouring, in alignment with God’s kingdom, principles and ways, nor do they have good ‘fruit’ in their lives. By way of an example, I am aware of some people who seek out financial advice from friends and family that are broke as! Um, something is not quite right with that picture hahaha! Be wise, be humble and do what you gotta do.
